ROPAN
PLANTING PROMISES, GROWING HOPE
Welcome to ROPAN—Be and Make’s environment initiative where trees carry dreams and every sapling tells a story of care, climate, and commitment. In the rural and tribal corners of West Bengal, ROPAN is more than just a plantation drive—it’s our green promise to the next generation.
Through ROPAN, children and villagers plant fruit-bearing, shade-giving, and ecologically vital trees like mango, jackfruit, guava, neem, banyan, and peepal. Each tree is planted with thought and purpose—chosen to benefit the soil, the community, and the future.
At every ROPAN event, something special unfolds. Children tie handmade rakhis to the trees, whispering softly, “Ei gachh-ta amar sathe boro hobe. Ami takey rokkha korbo.” ("This tree will grow with me. I’ll protect it.") What begins as a planting becomes a lifelong bond—with nature and with responsibility.

Why This Initiative?
ROPAN exists to restore our relationship with the environment, nurturing roots of change deep within our communities. In a world facing climate uncertainty, reforestation and environmental stewardship must begin at the grassroots—with children, families, and everyday action.

Purpose of the Initiative
Our purpose is rooted in care and sustainability. ROPAN aims to:
• Increase green cover by restoring biodiversity and improving air quality
• Provide food and shade through trees that nourish and comfort.
• Enhance livelihoods by allowing families to benefit from fruits and produce
• Build community ownership by involving families in planting and nurturing each sapling

Role of ROPAN
ROPAN turns plantation into participation. Children learn science under open skies. Communities take charge of their surroundings. Trees become teachers of patience, protection, and hope. Follow-ups and local engagement ensure that each tree grows strong— just like the values it’s meant to inspire.
At its heart, ROPAN is a quiet revolution in green—planting futures with every seed, and growing a culture of care with every root that takes hold. Because when a child ties a rakhi to a sapling, it’s more than a gesture. It’s a living promise to the earth.
